Critical Safety

U-40 vs U-100.
Not the same thing.

Poki Pet syringes are U-40 only. Using the wrong syringe with the wrong insulin can cause a fatal dosing error.

⚠ NEVER USE U-40 SYRINGES WITH U-100 INSULIN — OR VICE VERSA. DOSE ERRORS CAN BE FATAL.
✓ Use with Poki Pet

U-40 Insulin

  • 40 units per 1 mL
  • Vetsulin — dogs
  • ProZinc — cats
  • PZI / Caninsulin — cats & dogs
  • Most common for dogs in the US
✗ Do NOT use

U-100 Insulin

  • 100 units per 1 mL
  • Glargine / Lantus — most common for cats
  • Levemir / Detemir
  • Basaglar
  • Humulin N (U-100)
🚨 U-40 syringe + U-100 insulin

2.5x MORE insulin than intended. Life-threatening hypoglycemia within hours.

⚠️ U-100 syringe + U-40 insulin

2.5x LESS insulin than intended. Hyperglycemia and diabetic crisis over time.

If you are unsure which insulin your pet is on, check the bottle label or call your veterinarian before purchasing or using any syringe. Your vet is always the right first call.

Expert Guide

Watch a vet do it first

A licensed veterinarian walks through the full injection technique step by step. Watch once before your first pin.

Demonstrated by a licensed veterinarian. Always follow your own vet's specific dosing instructions.

Step by Step

How to Give the Injection

Read through once before your first injection. After a few days it becomes second nature — we promise.

💊

Check & Prepare

Confirm your pet has eaten. Confirm insulin says U-40. Check expiry date and inspect for cloudiness or particles. Wash hands. Roll bottle gently — never shake.

💉

Draw the Dose

Pull plunger to your dose, insert needle into the vial stopper, push in fully, then pull back to your mark. Check for bubbles and push them out.

🐾

Tent, Inject & Log

Pinch loose skin, insert at 45°, push slowly. Withdraw, apply gentle pressure, cap immediately. Give the treat. Log the time and dose.

Detailed Guide

Your hands will stop shaking after injection #3.

Every step, in full detail.

1

Confirm your pet has eaten

Insulin should always be given with food unless your vet specifically instructs otherwise. If your pet has not eaten their meal, do not inject — contact your veterinarian first. Skipping a meal before injection can cause dangerous hypoglycemia. Wash your hands, lay out your supplies, and keep a treat ready for after.

2

Inspect the insulin bottle

Confirm the label says U-40 and check the expiry date — never use expired insulin. Inspect the liquid before drawing: Vetsulin should be uniformly milky after rolling; ProZinc and PZI should be uniformly cloudy. Discard if you see clumps, floating particles, or unusual color. Gently roll the bottle between your palms to mix. Never shake — shaking creates air bubbles that affect dose accuracy.

3

Draw the insulin

Remove the cap. Pull the plunger to your prescribed dose. Insert the needle into the rubber stopper, push in fully, then slowly pull back to your dose mark. If you see air bubbles, flick and push them out, then redraw.

4

Use the tenting technique

Gently pinch a fold of loose skin at the injection site. Insert the needle at a 45° angle into the tent, smooth side facing up. Push the plunger slowly and steadily.

5

Withdraw and reward

Pull the needle out at the same angle. Apply gentle pressure for a few seconds. Do not rub. Cap and discard the syringe immediately — each syringe is single use only. Never reuse: the needle dulls after one use (causing more pain), and sterility is lost after first puncture. Give the treat — every time.

6

Log the dose

Write down the time, dose, injection site, and whether your pet ate. This protects against double-dosing and gives your vet critical data at checkups.

Dog
Works with Vetsulin

Most diabetic dogs in the US use Vetsulin — a U-40 insulin. Poki Pet syringes are designed exactly for this. 29G needle, 1/2cc barrel, 120 per box. Always confirm your dog's insulin type and dose with your veterinarian before use.

Cute cat
Cat
Works with ProZinc & PZI

Compatible with ProZinc and PZI — both U-40 insulins used for cats. Thin 29G needle means minimal stress. Important: Many cats are prescribed Lantus (glargine) or Levemir, which are U-100 — NOT compatible with these syringes. Always confirm your cat's insulin is U-40 with your vet before purchasing.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common questions from first-time pet insulin users. Don't hesitate to reach out if yours isn't here.

Happy dog with tongue out
Do NOT inject if your pet has not eaten. Insulin without food can cause life-threatening hypoglycemia. Contact your veterinarian before giving the dose. If your pet is regularly skipping meals, that may signal a dosing issue that needs professional adjustment — do not try to manage it yourself.
Never double dose. Skip the missed dose and resume the next scheduled injection at the normal time. If you are unsure or your pet seems unwell, call your veterinarian. Never try to compensate for a missed dose on your own.
Hold the syringe needle-up and tap the barrel gently. Push the plunger slightly to expel the bubble, then redraw to your correct dose. Our BubbleFree plunger design minimizes this — but small bubbles are common and easy to clear.
Do NOT re-inject. Skip that dose and give the next scheduled injection at the normal time. Contact your vet if you're unsure — it's always safer to under-dose than risk a double dose.
You should be able to easily pinch a fold of loose skin at least 1 inch wide. The scruff of the neck and between the shoulder blades are the easiest spots for most pets. Rotate between 4–6 zones — give each spot at least 3 days rest.
Email support@livaclean.com with a photo. We'll ship a replacement box within 24 hours — no return required. This is our Zero-Flinch Promise.
No. Never. Poki Pet syringes are U-40 only. Using them with U-100 insulin (Lantus, Levemir, Basaglar, Humulin N) will result in a 2.5x overdose which can be fatal. Always confirm your insulin bottle says U-40 before every injection.
It depends on which insulin your vet prescribed. Poki Pet syringes are U-40 only and are fully compatible with ProZinc and PZI — both U-40 insulins used for diabetic cats. However, many vets in the US prescribe glargine (Lantus) or Levemir for cats, and those are U-100 insulins. Using U-40 syringes with U-100 insulin causes a 2.5x overdose, which can be fatal. Check your insulin bottle label before purchasing. If it says U-100, you need U-100 syringes instead. When in doubt, call your vet — this is the one question worth a 5-minute phone call.
